Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame Rose

Founded in 1772, Veuve Clicquot has since lived by its motto, "Only one quality, the finest". Created first in 1988 and launched in 1995 La Grande Dame Ros is a tribute to Madame Clicquot and a reflection of the House's terroir, showing exceptional freshness, silkiness, elegance and spiciness. The spring of 2008 was cool and rainy. Thanks to an also cool and dry summer, the grapes ripened in excellent conditions. This cuve is an exclusive blend of 6 of the Houses 8 historical Grands Crus and made of 92% Pinot Noir (A, Ambonnay, Bouzy, Verzy, Verzenay) and 8% Chardonnay (Le-Mesnil-sur-Oger). The blend is obtained by adding 14% Pinot Noir red wine from Clos Colin, in Bouzy, the most iconic plot of the vineyard. For this vintage, the proportion of Pinot Noir was taken to another level (92%) by Dominique Demarville one of the highest ever as a true testimony of Madame Clicquots heritage and a tribute to her fondness for structure and strength. On the nose : powerful notes of red fruits (raspberry and strawberry), combined with citrus notes (blood orange, grapefruit), and finally a balance between subtle and spicy red berries, rooibos tea and leather notes. On the palate : fruit outshines the palate with intensity in red and black fruits (cherry, strawberry, blackberry and blackcurrant). Long aging notes, dried flowers and smoky notes, present an incredible complexity. This wine will pair perfectly with beef, ravioli with prawns, lamb and stuffed tomatoes.
