History and Paso Robles Roots

Justin Vineyards & Winery was established in 1981 when Justin and Deborah Baldwin planted vineyards in the hills west of Paso Robles. At the time, the region was still emerging as a fine-wine destination, and the Baldwins focused on Bordeaux grape varieties that would come to define the estate's reputation.

The winery's location in the western part of the Paso Robles AVA benefits from limestone-influenced soils and the moderating effects of proximity to the Pacific, conditions well suited to growing Cabernet Sauvignon and its Bordeaux companions. Over the decades, Justin grew from a boutique operation into a widely distributed brand while maintaining its estate focus.

In 2010, the winery was acquired by The Wonderful Company, owned by Stewart and Lynda Resnick, which provided resources for continued growth while the Paso Robles estate remained the heart of production.

House Style and Notable Wines

Justin's most celebrated wine is Isosceles, a Bordeaux-style blend led by Cabernet Sauvignon and typically rounded out with Merlot and Cabernet Franc. It is known for structure, dark fruit, and aging potential, and remains the winery's flagship expression.

Beyond Isosceles, the portfolio includes varietal Cabernet Sauvignon, other red blends such as Justification (a Cabernet Franc and Merlot blend), and a range of additional reds and whites. The house style generally emphasizes ripe fruit and balanced oak, reflecting the warm-but-tempered climate of western Paso Robles.

Wines vary in intended use: some are approachable young, while the reserve-tier reds and Isosceles reward cellaring for several years to allow tannins to soften and complexity to develop.

Buying and Serving

When buying Justin wines, match the bottle to your occasion. Everyday varietal bottlings are ready to enjoy on release, while Isosceles and reserve reds can benefit from decanting or additional bottle age. Check the vintage and tier to gauge readiness.

Serve the red blends and Cabernet Sauvignon at cool room temperature, around 60–65°F, and consider decanting younger, tannic vintages for 30 to 60 minutes. White wines are best served chilled.

These wines pair naturally with red meats, roasts, and rich dishes, making them a strong choice for dinners and special occasions. Store bottles on their side in a cool, dark place if holding them for the long term.
